Overview
What is a Cyber Security Technician?
Cyber Security Technicians provide first-line cyber security support by monitoring systems for threats, implementing protective measures, and ensuring secure digital operations across an organisation. They work under supervision to carry out defined tasks such as patching software, managing access controls, and responding to incidents, while supporting the development of a strong security culture.
Assessment
What does end-point assessment involve for Cyber Security Technician level 4?
Scenario Demonstrations with questioning
Apprentices will complete 4 practical scenario demonstrations, in a simulated environment. Each will include tasks they would naturally encounter as a Cyber Security Technician. The total time for the demonstrations will be 5 hours.
Professional Discussion underpinned by a portfolio
The professional discussion is between the apprentice and the assessor and is carried out by video call. It lasts 60 minutes.
Knowledge Test
The knowledge test is 60 minutes long and contains 40 questions, which are all multiple choice. It is taken online.
Useful to know
- The portfolio should be submitted at gateway.
- There may be breaks between each scenario demonstration.
- There must be a 10-day gap between gateway and the professional discussion, to allow the assessor to review the portfolio.
- Re-sits must be taken during the maximum EPA period, otherwise the entire EPA must be taken again, unless exceptional circumstances apply.
- There is no cap on the grade that can be achieved in a re-sit or re-take.
