Overview
What is a Data Technician?
Data Technicians are responsible for securely sourcing, formatting and presenting data in a way that supports analysis and business decision-making across various sectors. They work both independently and as part of a team to process structured and unstructured data, communicate findings, and ensure legal and ethical handling of information.
The information on this page relates to end point assessment (EPA). For information on the new apprenticeship assessment plan (AAP), contact us directly.
Assessment
What does end point assessment involve for Data Technician level 3?
Scenario Demonstration with questioning
The apprentice is given scenario-based tasks to complete, based on a provided data set. An assessor observes and asks questions during and after the tasks. In version 1.0, apprentices have two 45-minute scenarios. In version 1.1, it is one 90-minute scenario.
Professional Discussion underpinned by a portfolio
A portfolio of evidence is submitted at gateway. The discussion then takes place as a video call between the apprentice and assessor, lasting 60 minutes.
Useful to know
- The portfolio should be submitted at gateway.
- There must be a 10-day gap between gateway and the professional discussion, to allow the assessor to review the portfolio.
- For version 1.0, there is no cap on grades for those undertaking a re-sit or re-take. Any assessment re-sit or re-take must be taken during the maximum EPA period, otherwise the entire EPA must be taken again (unless exceptional circumstances apply).
- For version 1.1, grades are capped at a Merit for those undertaking a re-sit or re-take. The re-sit timeframe is typically 3 months.
