What is an Information Communications Technician?
An Information Communication Technician (ICT) ensures the efficient operation and control of IT and telecommunications infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and data storage. They support the delivery and maintenance of information systems, helping organisations function effectively across all sectors. Apprentices choose from three options: Support Technician, Network Technician or Digital Communications Technician.
Assessment
What does end point assessment involve for Information Communications Technician level 3?
Professional Discussion underpinned with a portfolio
A portfolio of evidence is submitted at the gateway. The discussion then takes place as a video call between the apprentice and assessor, lasting 60 minutes.
Project Report with Questioning
Apprentices complete a 1,500 word project report and undergo 30 minutes of questioning on the project with the assessor.
Useful to know
- The portfolio is submitted at gateway.
- There must be at least a 1-week gap between portfolio submission and the professional discussion, to allow the assessor to review the materials submitted.
- The project is started after gateway and the report must be submitted by the end of week 4 of the EPA period.
- There must be at least a 1-week gap between report submission and the questioning, to allow the assessor to review the materials submitted.
- Re-sits are typically taken within 2 months of the EPA outcome date.
- Grades achieved in a re-sit or re-take are capped at a Pass.
