What is a Software Development Technician?
Software Development Technicians support the creation of computer programs by building simple applications and assisting in the development and testing of high-quality code based on client specifications. They work under the guidance of developers to contribute to both user-facing applications and the underlying systems across a variety of sectors and projects.

What does end point assessment involve for Software Development Technician level 3?
Project report with questioning
Apprentices will take on a project that is suitable for their role and employer. They will submit a 3,000-word project report and undergo 40 minute questioning with an assessor.
Professional Discussion underpinned by a portfolio
A portfolio of evidence is submitted at gateway. The discussion then takes place as a video call between the apprentice and assessor, lasting 60 minutes.
Useful to know
- The portfolio is submitted at gateway.
- The project is started after gateway and the report must be submitted by the end of week 4 of the EPA period.
- There must be a 2-week gap between project submission and the assessment, to allow the assessor to review the materials submitted.
- Re-sits are typically taken within 2 months of the EPA outcome date.
- There is no cap on the grade that can be achieved in a re-sit or re-take.
