Overview
What is a Software Developer?
Software Developers build and test simple, high-quality code based on client requirements to create effective software solutions. They may develop applications for end users or the underlying systems that power devices and networks, contributing to projects from bespoke tools to large-scale systems.
Assessment
What does end point assessment involve for Software Developer level 4?
Work-based project with questioning
The project should be based upon a customer or stakeholder specification requiring the apprentice to respond to either a specific problem, a recurring issue, or an idea/opportunity. Apprentices complete a 4,500 word written report before undergoing 60 minute questioning with an assessor.
Professional Discussion underpinned by a portfolio
A portfolio of evidence is submitted at gateway. The discussion then takes place as a video call between the apprentice and assessor, lasting 60 minutes.
Useful to know
- The portfolio is submitted at gateway.
- The project is started after gateway and the report must be submitted by the end of week 9 of the EPA period.
- Re-sits are typically taken within 2 months of the EPA outcome date.
- There is no cap on the grade that can be achieved in a re-sit or re-take.
