A Network Engineer is responsible for installing and maintaining physical and virtual networks, ensuring they operate efficiently to support an organisation’s digital infrastructure. They also provide technical support to users, playing a key role in enabling business productivity through reliable network connectivity.

What does end point assessment involve for Network Engineer level 4?
Simulation assessment and questioning
Apprentices will undertake two simulation assessments in a virtual lab environment, using Cisco. 1st for Awarding provides a practice lab environment, also in Cisco. The questioning element takes place at a later date and lasts 30 minutes.
Professional Discussion underpinned by a portfolio
A portfolio of evidence is submitted at gateway. The discussion then takes place as a video call between the apprentice and assessor, lasting 60 minutes.
Useful to know
- The portfolio is submitted at gateway.
- There must be at least a 1-week gap between the simulation assessment and questioning element, to allow the assessor to review the simulation.
- The professional discussion takes place at least 2 weeks after gateway, to allow the assessor time to review the portfolio.
- Re-sits are typically taken within 2 months of the EPA outcome date.
- Grades achieved in a re-sit or re-take are capped at a Merit.
