Which apprenticeship did you do and why did you choose it?
Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketer Apprenticeship – I chose this apprenticeship as I have always had an interest in marketing, since high school, and wanted to explore this more within a working environment whilst also learning the fundamentals of marketing / the theory side of marketing too.
What appealed to you about doing an apprenticeship?
I would say the main thing that appealed to me about doing an apprenticeship would be learning the theory and developing my knowledge around marketing and then instantly applying this to my actual role at work. I learn best through applying my learning to the work that I am currently doing, which is exactly what an apprenticeship has to offer.
What did you learn through your apprenticeship? (other than what’s written in the standard)
As my apprenticeship took place in a working environment, I learnt a lot about how a business works and operates, especially the marketing department and all of their processes and functions. As I came straight from college where I completed my A-Levels, I learnt how to communicate with key stakeholders, how to work effectively in a team and a fast paced environment and I also developed personal skills like public speaking, group presentations and also, with being involved in core projects at work, I was able to apply all of the theory that I had learnt to be an effective project marketing lead.
What were your feelings prior to any assessments taking place, compared to after the event?
I always felt really prepared for any assessments that took place, especially my EPA. 1st for Awarding provided detailed and thorough documentation well in advance to my EPA so after reading through, I was left with no queries or uncertainty around the EPA process and what was expected from myself. This helped me feel at ease whilst preparing and whilst taking my EPA as I knew exactly what was expected from myself to achieve a good grade!
How would you describe your EPA experience with your assessor and 1st for Awarding in general?
Really positive! My assessor made me feel at ease throughout my whole assessment and calmed my initial nerves, they were very professional and easy to talk to.
What did you do to prepare for EPA?
To prepare for my EPA, I practiced my presentation and made sure I could present my project within the 20 minutes. I also went over my reports and familiarised myself with everything I had done throughout my time on programme in my different placements at work so that I could give some great examples.
Do you have any tips for someone going through the EPA process?
My main tip would be to talk about all of the brilliant things you have done throughout your apprenticeship, give as many examples as you can, no matter how big or small a project or task may have been – tell the assessor!
What have you done since completing your apprenticeship?
I have only just completed my apprenticeship in the last month, so I am currently working within the events team at JCB – arranging lots of fun visits and working on some core projects using the skills I have developed throughout my apprenticeship.
Do you think having your apprenticeship helped you progress your career?
Absolutely! I have learnt so many things and developed so many different skills during my apprenticeship that I will continue to take forward within my career, I use this knowledge and these skills within my everyday role!
Would you recommend 1st for Awarding to friend?
I would definitely recommend 1st for Awarding to a friend!
Do you have any other comments you would like to share about your experience?
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank 1st for Awarding for providing such an excellent apprenticeship experience. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and achieving a Distinction was the cherry on top!
