From 1 August 2025, 1st for EPA is approved to deliver assessments for two new Foundation Apprenticeships in the digital sector:
- Hardware, Network and Infrastructure (FA0004)
- Software and Data (FA0005)
These Level 2 apprenticeships provide an accessible route into the technology workforce and help learners build the knowledge and experience needed to progress to Level 3 apprenticeships or entry-level employment.

Assessment for Foundation Apprenticeships
Each Foundation Apprenticeship includes structured assessment components, including:
- A knowledge test
- A practical assessment
All assessment is designed to enable apprentices to demonstrate competence against the required assessment outcomes.
In foundation apprenticeships, Behaviours are not assessed in the same way they are in end point assessment (EPA). Instead, the standard lists Employability Skills and Behaviours (EBs), and employers must confirm that the apprentice has consistently demonstrated these prior to completion.

Foundation Apprenticeships are ideal for:
- Young people starting their careers in digital
- Learners transitioning into technical roles from other sectors
- Those needing a stepping-stone before progressing to Level 3 programmes.
They provide a hands-on, applied learning route that is both employer-aligned and accessible to a wide range of learners.
